Ukraine, 2 years ago, while in the midst of an incredible National crisis chose Petro Poroshenko to be their President, America 's electoral system has chosen Donald Trump in the haitus of our Presidential leadership conundrum. Soon Ukraine may simply walk away from any sense of connection to the Democratic values and socio-economic models the USA promotes, and return to some perhaps semi-feudalistic state. Power and wealth today is already largely concentrated in the hands of a few, the Patronage model is tested by history and practice in Ukraine. If the ability to succeed by inventiveness, personal merit, honesty and hard work is further eroded, that may be the largest problem Ukraine faces , going forward from here. The dark shadow of a war, sucking off the best talents , minds to man the front lines of an un- winnable conflict , it's bad enough. But a faltering of confidence, conveying the sense that there is no interest to uphold the Ukraine State , that they must fend for themselves against an opponent with a 90 times better funded military, that is their more imminent apprehensive perception. And yes perception between Ukraine and the West is always challenging, they are as smart as we are, yet their source of focus is far different, based on their history under Communism. Some people managed quite nicely under the Communist system. Some people were persecuted and repressed.
As every manner of Russian military hardware has been imported into Ukraine's territory to be used against the peaceful minded working people who lived in harm's way, Mister Trump's pick for leading the Department of Defense is chilling with Vladimir PUTIN AND PRAISING the prospect greater engagement with that policy of intimidation and domination. Mike is going to be the tough guy with the chip on his shoulder? Fighting the good fight against the decrepit military intelligence establishment? For me, that scenario doesn't sound reassuring, particularly if there is disunity and the prospect of Russian Nationalism being pushed for in the Baltic Republics. Elections (during Yanukovych times ) were bought so easily in Ukraine,
as for the Baltic Republics , how hard can that be ?
I am not too worried at the moment as to how much damage will get done or avoided, they are free to come looking for me. I am not afraid of a rich, schoolyard bully like Mister Trump, he may be smart but he is really not all that cool. And essentially, I think he has to be fearful that Mister Putin will get the better deal out of it, Mister Trump's lawyers won't be able to force a settlement on Russia or Ukraine.
