В каламутній воді легко рибу ловити.

Last week, when I asked the driver of the Mashrutka how he was doing, he just placed my bag in the rear and didn't say a word, like how should I not know how he is doing ? They are charging the same rates for rides that they did more than a year ago, the purchase power of his income from this tough bit of driving is half what it was, or something like that. If you went into a working class bar where they serve cheap beer, and ask around, what do you think they are saying ? Something like, "how in the Hell did we end up in this mess ?" Ukraine did not ask for 8 million of it's citizens to get killed in WW 2, a lot of bad things went down, one of them I only read about today was : this typically nasty Nazi gambit.
and now Russia is thinking about the "turn off the gas plan"
they have played up the Ukrainian Nazi thing to no end, it's really pretty sad
people I hang out with, the straight up regular people, they are often checking what Igor Kolomoisky has to say about stuff from his website, since he's closer to the action . But there is a lot of friction between the Pinchuks/ Kuchma and Mister  Kolomoisky
,  it is all way too intricate
makes me think of the Stones Song :

"Wild Horses"

Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day

while they aren't quite yet running towards it, they are doing all the cost / benefit  analytical process
of stimulating  a green energy program in Ukraine, to provide sustainable jobs and a future less dependent on the Russian Federation, but that will take money, there have been enough Green Design boondoggles in the USA , that I think an entire conference on Green energy could open with a
Green design Failures Key note address. Sooner or later, we run out of fossil fuels.
Once again, Germany is in the middle of it, as a <peace minded> player in the financing schemes to keep Ukraine afloat. We all know Germany likes green energy, they are big protagonists in that area, and good for them! But does Ukraine's upper middle class want to spread their bets, separate economically, do business outside their borders? Many of them  are choosing to go outside this increasingly conflicted and now war weary nation. So much bad news.

Very little contrition is apparent from the USA, Russia, the Europeans about how they let it go this far. Each side is pointing to the other as the protagonist, and the blame game, often it circles back around to the politicians in Ukraine. I asked a guy I respect for his wisdom, and he says the only political leader he looked up to, was some politician who died in an "accident" before Ukraine became independent. I still have to check back with him ,who he's referencing.

yet we are all well versed in the Geopolitical Intrigue relating to Caspian Sea Oil, and it's not trivial.

In a lot of ways, Russia seems to be copying the tactics The States used against the Native People of North America, it's all quite similar, our Colonial government arming, allying with Indian tribes with grudges against other tribes, then eventually mitigating those tribes, we were the ones who gave out blankets tainted with small pox, against which the natives had little or no cumulative resistance. For sure, the CIA has been active in Ukraine, how active and what they actually were involved in, is hard to read. It's an unfortunate he said / she said deal now. For sure Politics of America would be a lot different deal if we hadn't marginalized and wiped out huge numbers of Native American communities , but we can't deny or change our  past, the numbers vary from 10/20 million Native peoples comfortably using North America's natural landscape, to upwards of 50 million or more(counting all of North and South America ). Extrapolations based on  future feed forward going backwards in time, analyzing population trends, family sizes of Native People.  If there was a net neutral  depredation of their numbers during our "westward expansions". It's hard to do figure what the United States would look like, it's just another alternate universe scenario. There was also repression of Native American Spiritual movements. For most of them, while it has changed around quite a lot , the worse things did happen. It took our government way too long to arrive at a supportive strategy, and even today, it's a mixed bag of tricks.

But the people in Ukraine, that  I have asked about it lately, they say they are for the most part, glad they did relinquish their nuclear arsenal, they just wish their military hadn't been marginalized by neglect and corruption. It is quite likely the Kremlin strategists wanted to encourage the Yanukovych Kleptocratic management style, such taking of vast sums on monies only subtracting from the Army budgets in Ukraine, leaving it that much easier to deal with when the need and desire arose.

But of course, Russia wants to portray Ukraine as though it wants to herd the Russian speakers onto some reservation, as they are masters of the reverse disinformation strategy, so what is true ? I don't know. If they could reshape the conflict, as I am sure it will sooner or later, into what we'd call a friendly to acrimonious debate in the local school district PTA ( Parent / Teacher Association ) about what to extent the curriculum should emphasize Ukraine versus the Russian language, that would be big progress !
while Kiev isn't perfect, I see a lot of compassion, understanding and good will being shown to the refugees, I sense them around on the Metro, their eyes look at you different, they have the aura of being displaced.
will people displaced by the war, end up in some sort of Potemkin village where there are no jobs as the VICE news video details about the environmental catastrophe in the Dominican Republic ?

There are a lot of atrocious conditions in Russia and Ukraine, the war isn't helping people get to a better place.

Article from the Economist about the raw facts
things can improve, if everything happens in the right way

<Apologies for the faux misogynistic sarcasm > Let's just blame the whole darn thing on Victoria Nuland ? Maybe blame it on her being technologically inept ? Isn't that so convenient ? It is all her fault,  for not knowing how to use an encrypted telephone and making that off color remark about the EU.>
Maybe that caused the US and EU not to find a consensus quickly enough, gave Russia the propaganda basis to justify all the stuff they did.

Maybe that is not how most people think, blame it on the woman. If she hadn't handed out sandwiches on the Maidan, hadn't been caught saying bad things about the EU, none of this would have happened! Misogyny is so convenient. Blame the MH 17 shoot down on her, Blame the taking of Crimea, Blame the conflict in East Ukraine. She has a reputation as a Neo Con, but I don't want to judge a lady I never met. She is probably a really smart, engaging and warm lady, with her own ideals and style, maybe not everyone's cup of tea though..Russia likes to portray her as the Protagonist.

But clearly some folks/ they want to spell out an independent perspective here, so much text it'll make your head spin, was it written by a hypnotist ? I read it and I hit a wall of brain fog...

but now all the MH 17 reports are coming out, and RT News will soon follow with it's back side rebuttals. As invincible as Mister Putin seems, it could lead to a final bow. His team will have to keep generating competing ideas, maybe there won't be a  "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" / Миссия выполнена  moment for him to relish, landing on the air craft carrier... (like George Bush, after his quickie victory in Iraq ) yet who knows, he may do it, pull a rabbit from his flight suit, hand it to an Eagle and have the Eagle fly off with it and safely land the rabbit in a children's playground with a cadre of delightfully adorable kids enthralled by the majestic Eagle leaving off the cute  bunny. The guy is a show man, he is the gesture, but what is his result ? Not everyone likes his approach :

these British guys seem to be thorough, but they'll be going up against the opposite team, it's still a chess match, where might makes right, at least for a while.
